DESCRIPTION
The Learning Abroad Equity & Inclusion Peer Advisor has a passion for all things international and has a strong desire to help students on campus find opportunities to grow and develop in new ways. Apply for this position if you love leadership, social justice, networking, and using your critical thinking skills to address complex problems. All peer advisors work to help students find Learning Abroad experiences and navigate the application process. The Equity and Inclusion Peer Advisor assists with the Learning Abroad Exchange and Diversity teams in developing, maintaining, and executing strategies with the overall goal of enhancing access to Learning Abroad programs to all students.POSITION BENEFITS

This position is considered Category IIA: Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID-19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID-19 Telecommuting AgreementMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Maintain good standing and full-time status at the University of Utah
  • Willing to commit to AT LEAST one academic year of employment (summer employment possible)
  • Notify Learning Abroad if otherwise employed by any other office or department at the University of Utah

ResponsibilitiesADVISING TASKS (10%)

  • Lead Learning Abroad 101 information sessions
  • Assist students with initial advising at the front desk and in peer advisor appointments

CLERICAL TASKS (40%)

  • Serve as the first point of reference for students and community members at the front desk: Appointment scheduling and Answering phone calls and emails
  • Complete administrative duties as needed: Application management, data entry, file creation, office organization, and restocking materials

EQUITY/INCLUSION TASKS (50%)

  • Work alongside our Diversity Team to engage in strategic planning and to conduct research, evaluation, and assessment around DEI best practices
  • Assist the Diversity Team with campus and alumni outreach and networking
  • Serve as a student representative in the Office for Global Engagement Social Equity Committee
  • Assist the Exchange Team in welcoming and supporting visiting international exchange students

Minimum Qualifications PreferencesSKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, creative, and decision-making skills to provide sound solutions to complex issues
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, self-starter and willing to accept responsibility for results; committed to excellence: accuracy in work and attention to detail

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Major in Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, Political Science, International Studies, Education, or other relevant area
  • Experience living in, studying in, or traveling to another country
  • Experience with undergraduate research
